Files Get Lost in Memories

"Can I purchase the digital images?" It's the question I get most often, and my answer is, "Of course!" Having digital images is definitely a perk - a way of archiving - just like film negatives are archival. But we shouldn't leave all of our digital files to sit and degrade over time (yep, they do that) on hard drives.

Files get lost in memories

My guess is there's a good chance that you have a favorite certain photo, but you're not quite sure where it is. You're pretty sure you saved it on your computer, but it would take some sleuthing to find it. Or God forbid, maybe you had some favorite images that were lost to a hard drive failure (sadly all too common), and you didn't have them backed them up to a second location. There's also a really good chance you were given a CD of images, but now your computer is like mine, and it doesn't even have a hard drive. Well, that's a bummer.

Memories on Paper

Technology changes, the way photographers deliver images changes, but prints are lasting. Flipping through 4x6's, passing them around with family and friends, and turning the pages of albums are bonding experiences. Walking down a hallway filled with photographs brings back memories of snuggling with tiny newborn babies, grandparents passed, vacations you wish you could take again - memories that might be hidden deeper if not for the reminders on the wall or within the covers of albums.

What I Offer My Clients

I recently read a blog post from photographer Sandra Coan, titled "The Power of One Photo" and I agreed with every word she wrote. Essentially, her goal is to create one photo from each session that is so beautiful that it deserves to be printed, which then makes it a family heirloom. That's exactly what I want to do for you. I want to create photos that you love SO MUCH that you can't imagine them simply sitting on a hard drive - they have to be framed on the wall or printed in an heirloom album to be enjoyed each time you pass by or open the pages.

Do I Need To Be In The Pictures? | Denver Newborn Photographer

I adore photographing the joy that newborns bring to their families - which is the very reason why I think parents and siblings should be included in newborn sessions. The baby is the reason for the session, but it's also about so much more.

Newborn Family Photography

Newborn sessions celebrate the excitement of an older sibling getting to know his baby brother. It's about the rejoicing of parents, and the new family they've formed - sometimes after great struggles. It's about new life, new families, and new dynamics.

Do you have old family photos from when you were a baby or child? Most of us do, and if you're like me, you love seeing what your parents and siblings looked like years ago. You may have even reached (or surpassed) the age your parents were when they had you. Isn't it incredible seeing your family members in the past - at the same stage in life as you now? This is why you need to be in your baby's newborn photos!

As your children grow, they'll enjoy looking back at their baby pictures just as you do. They'll see the joy in your smile, the love in your arms, and the gentle way you kissed their forehead.

This session was extra special for me since Jenny has been my closest friend for years. She's a photographer too, so it's a huge honor when another photographer chooses you to take their photos! Jenny adores her house, and she and her husband are constantly updating it. They've even given it a name - Greendale Cottage. Since their home is such a huge part of their story, and it's filled with lots of gorgeous natural light and white walls, it just made sense to do their session where they spend so much of their time. I think their comfort level shines through in their photos!

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

I can't get enough of lifestyle newborn sessions where the whole family is involved. Yes, the whole purpose of a newborn session is to capture the fleeting time when your child is truly a newborn, but it can also be about the beginnings of brand new family dynamics.

Lifestyle newborn sessions can highlight the love of parents navigating their own new family and the joy of children getting to know their newborn sibling. Safety is always important, so it's smart to have mom or dad close when young siblings are holding the baby. You'll even notice Jenny's hand holding baby Bear steady in one of the photos. Yes, I could have her hand edited out by a professional retoucher, but both Jenny and I agreed that we loved her small presence in the photo. Looking back years from now, she'll remember this sweet moment watching over her children.

And oh my, this first photo. It's just about my favorite way to photograph a mother and her baby. When I had my own daughter, I set up this very pose, and had David take a photo of me and Olivia. If I take your newborn photos, it's almost guarenteed that this pose will be included!

Nikki & Sedona | Denver, Colorado Motherhood Photographer

Motherhood Session on Film

These are the kinds of photos I want with Olivia as she grows older. They radiate joy and love, and without knowing Nikki and Sedona, you can tell that they have a special relationship.

This session had been a dream of mine for quite a while, and I was thrilled with how everything came together. Nikki and I decided to  do her session in a clean, white, studio, so there wouldn't be any distractions in the end results. I just adore bright, white walls.

We looked for a while to find the perfect dress, because honestly, how often do busy moms really get to dress up? Nikki found this gorgeous beaded gown at BHLDN and I fell in love immediately. I'm actually waiting for the perfect time when I can wear it for a motherhood session with Olivia. Ha! And I'm equally in love with Sedona's blue pinafore from Blythe & Reese Handmade. I really love supporting small businesses, and this one is special since it was started by a photographer friend of mine from Denver. The quality is incredible, and pinafores are so classic.

"Now" is always a great time to take photos, and motherhood Sessions are a perfect reason to play dress-up with your daughter. Enjoy!

Welcome | Denver, CO Maternity, Newborn, Family Photographer | Georgia Motherhood Photographer

What a year it's been! After seven wonderful years in Colorado, this spring we moved back to our home state of Georgia. We miss Colorado terribly, but we decided to make the move so Olivia could be closer to her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. And she'll be getting her 11th cousin this winter!

An equally big change for me is the decision to shift my professional focus from wedding photography to maternity, newborn, and family photography - mostly on film. Although I still enjoy weddings, and I may return to them someday, my heart has shifted to everything motherhood and family.

It's not a coincidence that this shift happened after Olivia came into our lives. Motherhood has changed me. Before I really got the bug to have a child, I couldn't quite relate to the friends whose IG feeds became a gallery of their children (now I'm one of them). I thought it was funny how every parent was sure their child was the smartest, cutest, sweetest... but now I'm positive that Olivia is all of those things. My rose colored glasses aren't so shaded that I'm protected from her tantrums or hard days, and we're quickly approaching the stubborn "threenager" stage, but the struggle to have her makes me appreciate motherhood in a way I can't put into words.

"For this child I prayed..." 1 Samuel 1:27

Infancy is gone in a flash. Toddlers become teenagers, and then all too soon they move out on their own. Then we'll be the mommas telling new parents how quickly it all goes by. Time slips through our fingers, but we hold onto the memories.

I want to help you "remember when" and create heirloom portraits to share with your children and family as they grow. I can't wait to photograph all of the eagerly expecting mommas, newborn sweetness, and big family hugs that are brought my way!
